“As it happens
to the fool, so will it happen to me…and how the wise man dies as the fool…Seeing
that
I must leave it to the man who shall be after me… who knows whether he
will be a wise man or a fool?…There is nothing better than he should eat,
drink, and make his soul enjoy good in his labor. This also I saw; that
it is from the hand of God.”

Eccles. 3
“For everything
there is a season and a time for every purpose under heaven. A time to
be born and a time to die. A time for every matter under heaven.”
|
|
Psalm 90
“The days of
our years are 3 score and 10, or by reason of strength, 4 score. We are
soon gone and we fly away…So teach us to number our days that we might
apply our hearts unto wisdom.”
|

Psalms
“This is the
day that the Lord has made. Let us rejoice and be glad in it.”

|
Matthew 6:25
“Therefore I
say to you, be not anxious for your life, what you eat, or what you shall
drink, or what you will put on….Be not anxious for tomorrow, for tomorrow
will be anxious for itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.”

|
James 4:13
“Come now, you that say, ‘Tomorrow we shall go into this city, and spend
a year there, and trade and get gain; whereas you know not what shall be
on the morrow.
What is your life? For you are a vapor that appears for a little time,
and then vanishes away. For what you ought to say, ‘If the Lord will, we
shall both live, and do this and that.”

Responses:
Faithless View
We are nothing…
Like grass, sand, a floating speck
Within 100 years our memory is forgotten.
Faith-full View
We are part of something grand, immense, eternal, everlasting.
Every moment we live we are translating into eternity.
Nothing can un-do or un-sing or un-say anything away of our lives.
Therefore let us live this “moment”
In faith because we are a part of something that came from the very beginning.
Hope because there is something to us that outlives life.
And love, because love is the highest of all values.
“Those who abide in love abide in God, and God in them.”
“In God we live and move and have our being.” |

Hymn
“O God our help
in ages past, our hope for years to come.
Our shelter from the
stormy blast and our eternal home.”
