”Son, why have you
      treated us so?”

Don't you know how children
      outgrow grandparents
      as they grow up?

Adoration gives way
      to loving respect...
      then tolerance of quaintness.

And grandchildren choose ways
      not the way of either
      parents or grandparents.

Wrinkled brows
      and nightly prayers
      worry growing kids along.

Old values and ways
      appear to be abandoned
      and rejected.

Grandparents sometimes hurt...
      but never quit believing
      he'll finally turn out OK.

It is the way
      of grandparents.

”Jesus, when he began his ministry
was about thirty years of age,
being the sone (as was supposed)
of Joseph, the sone of Heli
                        the son of Matthat
                        the son of Levi...”

Luke takes half a chapter
      to list Jesus’ grandfathers...
      on Joseph’s side.

Not the grandmothers.

Not the grandparents
      on Mary’s side.

But the point is made...
      that everyone has
      grandparents.

Names blurred
      whose genes thrive
      in descendent’s blood.

Theologians rarely notice
that even the son of God
      had grandparents.

But grandparents notice.

It is the way
      of grandparents.
